The Best Concert Film I've Seen
I’ve been a casual fan of Neil Young’s music for a long time, tending to gravitate more to his acoustic side than the loud, noisy stuff. His new concert film, Heart of Gold, is a revealing, unexpected treasure. Young recorded his album Prairie Wind days before undergoing an operation for a brain aneurysm. After successful surgery and his father’s recent death, he returned to Nashville to perform his new songs in public for the first time, and this is the film of that concert. The songs are beautiful reflections of life, mortality and the human spirit. They’re presented here in a staightforward manner without all the modern, MTV style cuts every few seconds. This is simply the best concert film I’ve ever seen, and I can’t recommend it enough, even if you’re not a big fan.
