Judge Halts Wiretapping Program

17 Aug 2006

Today a federal judge in Detroit ordered a halt to the United States’ “secret” eavesdropping program, declaring it unconstitutional. The same people who line up behind this decision will also be the first to scream “why wasn’t more done to protect us” the next time a terror attack takes place on our soil. I have no issue whatsoever with warrantless eavesdropping if it gives our country a tool it needs to effectively keep this country secure. Yes, it’s a noble thought that we can protect everybody’s rights and remain secure, but the sad fact is that today’s extremist wackos have no qualms about using those same protections against us. It’s a different world post 9/11, and it’s about time we recognize it and act accordingly.
