Zach's First Camping Trip

This past weekend I took the kids on a camping trip to the North Shore of Lake Superior. We stayed at Gooseberry Falls State Park, and also visited a number of other scenic areas along the lake shore.

This was Zach's first camping trip, and it went well aside from some falls, scrapes and gnat bites. Even though it can be hard work at times, I thoroughly enjoy getting out of town and showing the kids there is a life beyond TV, video games, and the normal daily routines. We all had a great time, although it can be a little disheartening to hear your 4 year old son say the best part of the trip was "the cereal".

The trip was also the first workout of my new Nikon D40x/tripod setup. The results can be viewed here. I tried to get a little more creative in a few of the shots, using filters and longer exposures on the waterfalls. All in all, I think they turned out pretty good for a first try.

I'm also very happy that I've lost about 70 pounds now. I have a lot more energy, and that makes a big difference when hiking and climbing around with the kids. My goal is to lose another 35 pounds, for a total of 105. It's still a ways off, but at least it's in sight now.
