MST3K Is Back! (sorta)

Mystery Science Theater 3000 (MST3K) was one of the funniest shows ever produced. Now, the 3 principals of the cast for the last few years of their run have regrouped. Mike Nelson, Kevin Murphy and Bill Corbett are now known as The Film Crew, and have started releasing DVDs featuring their famous riffing on horribly bad films. The premise here is that they have been tasked with providing a commentary track to every film that has yet to receive one. There is some introductory banter, the first half of the film, a "lunch break" with more banter, the last half of the film, then some wrap-up banter at the end. The riffing itself is as good as MST3K in its prime, although you no longer see their silhouettes on the bottom of the screen, and they all play themselves.

Their first disc, "Hollywood After Dark", is a truly dreadful film starring Rue McClanahan as a stripper, but the crew turn it into comedy gold. If future releases can maintain the quality level, this will be a series to enjoy for quite some time. You can get each DVD for around $12 with free shipping at Deep Discount.
