Site Design Reboot

04 Aug 2007

As you can see, I've given the site another facelift. Besides the visual redesign, I've tried to make things a little tighter "under the hood" by incorporating more semantic markup and optimizing my use of Textpattern. I've read a few good books lately, including Transcending CSS and Textpattern Solutions, that have given me some new ideas and inspiration. Pages should now load a little faster, and I've enlarged the font size to hopefully make the text more readable. Also, all pages now valididate as XHTML 1.0 strict.

IE users: The site is a bit of a mess right now if you're using IE6. IE7 is a little better, but still has some issues, like display problems with the top navigation menu, as well as a photo slideshow (on the photos page) that doesn't display properly. I'll see what I can do to make things degrade nicely on IE, but I heartily suggest moving to a standards-based browser like Firefox as a better alternative.

UPDATE 8/11/2007: Things should look a little better in IE6 now, although there is still an issue with the background showing through if the left side if the page is shorter than the right. It's hardly worth spending time on this, so for you IE6 users, this is probably as good as it's going to get.
