Cinematic Titanic
updated Jan 23, 2008
A while back I posted on an MST3K spinoff, The Film Crew. Now most of the original MST3K folks (including Joel Hodgson) are back riffing on bad movies under the banner Cinematic Titanic. They're selling their first DVD, The Oozing Skull for $15, so I ordered a copy.
It's basically an average MST3K episode with a few exceptions. First of all, when you hit "Play" it jumps right to the movie- no intro bits like the original or The Film Crew. There are 5 silhouettes on screen, and two of them are standing, which takes a little getting used to. There are no breaks for bits during the feature, but they do freeze-frame a few times for some extended riffing. All-in-all, I'd call it a success, as I was laughing out loud quite a few times, probably more than I did with The Film Crew DVDs.
It's obvious all of the ex-MST3K'ers want to resurrect MST3K in some form, so you'd think they'd all just get together and make it happen officially. The brand MST3K would have more impact and be easier to sell as opposed to being splintered into The Film Crew and Cinematic Titanic. As I understand it, Jim Fallon owns the MST3K rights, so it would seem to make sense to get the 3 parties together to hammer something out.
