Someone's opinion of you does not have to become your reality.

Now on Facebook

19 Jan 2009

I finally broke down and started a Facebook profile, more as an experiment than anything else. I wanted to see for myself what all the fuss was about. You can check it out here:

New Fruit2O Formula

09 Oct 2008

For the last year and a half, I've been hooked on Fruit2O flavored water. Replacing carbonated sodas with Fruit2O was one factor in helping me lose all my weight last year. It has zero calories, isn't carbonated, and tastes great. I've been buying it from Sam's Club by the case.

In September 2008 I noticed they changed the label design and added a "More Fruit Flavor!" blurb on the bottle. When I got it home and had my first sip, I almost spit it out. All of the flavors I loved (Grape, Tropical Fruit, Cherry and Peach), had been replaced by a dreadful new flavor that can only be characterized as "plastic". I don't know what they did, but they've taken a great thing and replaced it with a cheap imitation. Time to look for an alternative I guess. I think Sam's sells something similar from Nestle, so I may have to give that a try.

UPDATE 11/3/2008: I think I've found my replacement. Aquafina has a line of flavored water called "Flavor Splash". I like all four flavors, so I'm stocking up.

UPDATE 3/23/2009: Sam's Club is now carrying cases of Fruit2O that have some new flavors: Strawberry, Raspberry, Lemon and Grape. These are actually pretty good, so they must be messing with the formula again. I may be returning to the fold.

Public School Double Standard

10 Apr 2008

The Star Tribune yesterday published an eye-opening piece on a local public school that apparently has a Muslim religious affiliation. You have to believe that had this been a school affiliated with Christianity, it would be immediately shut down. It's my opinion, and the opinion of the columnist, that religion (any religion) has no place in a school funded by our tax dollars.

I'm not a very religious person, and frankly think that organized religion is the major problem in the world today. Having said that, it definitely appears that there's a double standard going on here, and we're treating Muslims with kid gloves in this country. We're so afraid of offending their beliefs that we are bending over backwards for them- extending protections not available to other religions, and looking the other way when flagrant violations are committed. It's a sad state of affairs.

Update 4/12/2008: Apparently this story was a follow-up to an earlier, original story.
